Mr.Shamsul briefed us about the project and reminded us this is a group task and told us to form a group. This project allow us to design a packaging prototype. We were given 3 briefs to chose. After forming a group, we have decided to chose the Brief 2 as our project.
Brief 2
Smile Surprise (Miniature Toiletries)
Company Name: Smile Surprise
Product: Gift packs of
miniature toiletry items (e.g., shampoo, conditioner, body wash,
deodorant).
Target Market: A younger generation who want to give
inexpensive presents to friends.
Core Values: Products are
produced with great concern for the environment.
The packaging
must focus on the 3R's: reduce, reuse and recycle.
Packaging Goal:
Design an innovative gift pack capable of holding a varying range of
miniature toiletries.
The packaging must:
- Showcase the products and the concept of choice.
- Securely deliver the product from factory to home without damage.
- Retain shelf appeal and have a clear, attractive brand identity.
- Consider the end of life of the packaging, focusing on the 3 R's.Branding
Goal: Design a logo that appeals to a younger generation.
We start by finding references and fill our moodboard with selected colors, typeface and and style. For the color we go dominant on blue and yellow. The typography we ewant it to be bold and bubbly, while the style is fun, energetic andcheerful.

We continue to refine the logo and come up with more variations. Mr.Shamul chose the one on the top right, but he said we can do some refinement with the letter M and E as the one shown is not consistent.
Mr.Shamsul suggested for us to go on with the logo below. The logo was made with consistent geometrical shape with a surface that is cureved and straight.
After finalizing the logo, we moved on with the packaging. Below is the
dieline for the box and partition done in Illustrator.
We began to redo the dieline in illustrator and add the visual design. For the partition we decided to go with full yellow color. We made circular partition so the bottle can stand properly when in the box.
I took part to do the dieline for the box. For the box packaging, we have decided to utilize blue color and add pattern. However, the overal color palette remain blue, yellow and white.
Below is the detailed information included in the box packaging.
After finalizing the design and deline, we went to Mummy Design in PJS to do the printing.
Details for box printing:
Material: Art Card 310gsm(G)
*Size:*cut to size Print Colour: 4C
(Front)
Lamination: Matte Laminate (Front)
Die cut:
Complicated Die Cut + Creasing
Details for partition printing:
Material : Artcard 230gsm
Size: cut to size
Print color: 1

Finishing: none
So here is the printed dieline.
Here is how it looks when folded.

1.20 Final Box Dieline (Week 10, 26/11/25)
1. 21 Final Box Dieline (Week 10, 26/11/25)
Rationale:
The logo and packaging design targets youngsters with a fun, energetic, and cheerful visual style. Blue and yellow color palette are used to reflect fresh and vibrant look, while bold typography to enhances friendliness and playfulness. The packaging utilize compact triangular shape with three circular partitions to hold the miniature bottles of shampoo, shower gel, and conditioner. This structure is to makesure the is convenience for consuemrs and clean organization also giving an exiting unboxing experience. Focusing on the 3R principles (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle), the design minimizes material use, encourages reuse through its sturdy form. Overall, the design aim to deliver a fresh and practical solution for a miniature toiletries gift pack.
FEEDBACK
Week 8:Mood board, Concept
Refine the logo, then develop
the packaging structure to be more convenient.
Week 9: Visual, Digital Mock-up
Mr. Shamsul approved our box
packaging design, so we can proceed to make the viusalization and the
dieline to make the prototype. For the logo design, we can improvise the
letter "e" more.
Week 10: Prototype
Packaging: Make the material of the
packaging thinner and design the outside cover.
Label: For the
label we need to keep it basic and put the name of product (shampoo etc.)
closer to the logo.
REFLECTION
Experience
I personaly feel excited for this project and look forward to explore with packaging. Although there were moments of miscommunication within the group, we managed to work through the challenges and complete the project on time. The process taught me the importance of teamwork, patience, and staying open to different perspectives.
Observation
During the prototyping stage, I've observed that ensuring details like measurements is crucial. Even small miscalculations can affect the entire structure. I;ve also noticed that different type of paper might result in different measurement. Just as we tried the first prototype, it ended up too tight because we used corrugated board which added thickness and affected the dimensions.
Findings
Throughout this process, I found that packaging that looks simple can actually be complicated to construct. Close measurements need to be done to ensure box close properly and partition hold the product in a sturdy position. This experience strengthened my understanding of the technical aspects of packaging design and to bemore detailed to achieve a better packaging outcome in the future.
