Mr. Hafiz review our progress and gave feedbacks during offline class.

 INTRODUCTION

Task 3

We were asked to create a typographic poster that should convey the selected "quote of the day" through the typography. We were stricted to only use sans-serif typfaces and A4 canvas in Illustrator.

Reference
First of all, I find inspiration from pinterest and also some source that Mr.Hafiz provided in Google Classrom. I also took Jessica Hische's art as my reference. I like the third picture it looks like a door and will take it as my reference for sketch. Because I want the theme of fairytale, I searched for princess, castle and related image.

Sketches

For my design concept, I would like to represent a door/gate where I am entering into it (the fairytale).

With first sketch, I have come out with this output, Mr.Hafiz gave feedback that the background and surroundings overpower the typography itself and it does not really tells the message and told me to change something in order to fix it.

Therefore, I came up with second sketch. I decide to go with a simpler one but still convey the message to audience.

Digitise

- First, I start by searching for fonts that relate to my theme. As Mr. Hafiz approved to find from dafont, I found 2 sans-serif typfaces that suits to my design.

Typefaces : Aesthetic Romance Regular & Odin Bold

Aesthetic Romance Regular for 'sparkle' and 'fairytale'.
Odin Bold for 'be the' and 'in your own'.

Below is the raw font, before I modify.

I try to modufy the word 'sparkle' I use pencil tool to edit the font. After several trial and error, I come up with this design.

Fig 2.7 Progress #1

The typhographic quote still looks so simple so I decided to use one of the Illustrator techniques that Mr. Hafiz has taught us. I use 3D effect, i tried all extrude, revolve, inflate and decided to use inflate because it gives off curved and playfull effect. Then I proceed to chage the material into 'Gold natural'.

I applied the same 3D effect into the rest of the words.

Fig 2.9 Typographic Quote #4

Next I put the quote into my poster design and add shiny sparkle on some letters. For the sparkle I use a square, distort and transform into pucker and bloat. Then I use gaussian blur effect.

Then I decided to use the sparkle I made before into the surrounding of the quote.

Lastly, using brush, I add wavy curl.

Rationale
I was inspired by the disney theme and took my disney castle picture for this project. The image shows me entering the dream world. In this magical space, you can be completely be yourself. It’s a place where your dreams come true, your story unfolds, and your true self is the most powerful magic. You’re not just stepping into a dream, but also shining as your own special sparkle. The scene is full of bright colors, with glittering light.

As for my typographic quote ‘Be the sparkle in your own fairytale’. I would like to highlight the word ‘sparkle’ and the person in themiddle. To show that you can be your own sparkle. I curated it as dreamy as I could, I modified the font to curl at the edge to showflawlessness and also added sparkle to make it shine. In addition, Iadded sprinkles surrounding the dress.

Reflection

Doing task 3, I realize how important it is to search for reference and see more examples before starting the sketch.  With specific reference I am able to visualize what I want to design, it is more to a spesific goal embeded. While designing the typography there are many aspect to consider. In the beginning, I made the typhographic very bold and heavy which does not really looks good, then comes another problem where the poster backfround overpower my typographic quotes. I was quite struggling to balance all the photographic element and typhographic quote. But after sometimes I look into more reference and realise that everything needs balance, and by that I you are able to convey the message to audience.  So I trial and eror variations of type and background design and come out with the best I could.
