INSTRUCTION

Make a 'Self-Titled' poster and animate it.

Timeframe: WEEK 10 - WEEK 14
Duration: 15 second
Output: .MOV or .MP4 less than 20MB
Size: 1080 x 1920 px (I.G reel/ story size)

IDEA DEVELOPMENT

1. Write a biography about yourself
(Week 11, 3/12/24)

 

Intro	My name is Felice, I was born and raised in Indonesia.  I am an outgoing person who loves to imagine and long for freedom. Studying here in Malaysia is one of the thing i did out of my comfort zone.This was the first semester of my degree and many ups and downs I’ve been through. Without realizing one semester almost end.
Paragraph 1	What is your passion? I love randomness, i am not typical who always plan everything beforehand, i am more to flexible. I love sitting outdoor, enjoying the view, while listening  to the music and often imagine things in my head. I love to design because I could bring out my imagination and turn it into reality.
Paragraph 2	What’s motivate you to achieve your dream? My parents is my number 1 support system. I wish to give back what they have given me or even more, by that I desire to always do my best, work hard now to achieve my dream, I’ve always have in mind ‘do your best and let God do the rest”.
Summary	How do you want to visualize your dream into an artwork? Using dreamy and random styled poster, which I’ve always wanted to do.

2. Write a statement about your work
(Week 11, 3/12/24)

 

INTRO	Tell us about your work? I would like to do a dreamy style poster with surrealism in it.
PARAGRAPH 1	What is the concept behind it? I love sky related theme, clouds, fairytale, so I put all my interest and would like to come up with something surrealistic and random. I would like to bring my imagination surrealism theme into reality through this design. I want to bring out what is my thought now. I’ve always wanted to make a surrealism poster filled with dreamy, cloudy theme. So here i am to execute it.
PARAGRAPH 2	What is the message you want people to understand it?  I would like to portray that randomness, freestyle, is a beauty of art, you just need to be yourself, dream high.
SUMMARY	I would like to visualize that everyone has our own way to make and live on your own our dream.

As Mr.Fauzi approval on sketch, I start to develop the digital poster.

First, I select my pictures using object selection tool.

I got this moon picture from google. I clipping mask it and erase unwanted parts using brush tool.

This cloud picture is from previous double exposure exercise.

I cut and paste the pictures into one frame. This was the initial idea based on my sketch, however, I didn't like it. So I try tried to edit the background into 2 sides. I use clipping mask and double exposure method for this.

I combine these 2 pictures for the background, I use clipping mask to blend it.

I made this stars using shape tool in Photoshop, then I go to layer style and add outer glow to make it looks shiny.

 The meteor on sky, I made it in Adobe Illustrator using 2 circles and blending mode.

I search for planet pictures online, then I select and cut the picture to paste in my poster.

I made the orbit using ellipes tool in photoshop and add outer glow. Then I put the planets picture that I have selection tool before.

I clipping mask the orbit and use brush tool to erase the part that cover the moon and me.

Next, I select the clock hand, separate it from the clock so when animate the clock is ticking. I use magnetic lasso tool to select and generative fill the clock backgrund.

I added butterfly for the fairytale theme below with the castle. I also use magneti laso tool to cut the butterfly and paste it to my poster.

 I add stars in the sky using polygon shape tool, then I add outer glow and adjust the size.

Lastly, I add clipping mask to my picture and use brush to make it blend to the background.

I had consultation with Mr.Fauzi from googleclassroom and he approved this to be animated. 

However, after looking for sometimes, I think the clock makes the picture looks too much, so I decided to delete it.

ANIMATION PROCESS

After Mr.Fauzi's approval on the final poster, I proceed to animate.

I started with the metor, I would like to make meteor rain, I apply anchor point and opacity and make repetition of it. Some I make repetition every 2 seconds, some 3 and some 7 seconds.

Next, I want to make the planet bump to the other planet to create orbit. I us anchor point for this one, I adjust it to every 1 second to bump the other planet.

For the clouds, I just made a very minimum movement using position.

I also animate the butterfly, flying slowly in the fairytale background.

Statement

Here is a dreamy surrealistic poster. I love randomness, I love sky related theme, clouds, fairytale, so I put all my interest. I’ve always wanted to make a surrealism poster filled with dreamy, cloudy theme. So here i am to execute it. I would like to portray that randomness, freestyle, is a beauty of art, you just need to be yourself and dream high. Here I show 2 parts of the background, one is sky, one is land (fairytale). It is a style of freedom wherever you go. Freedom to choose wherever you go. 

She is living in her own dream, freely, all the imagination comes to reality. 

The background is divided into sky and land, so you got all the freedom to choose wherever you go. 

Sitting on the moon, above the clouds, strongly emphasis on the freedom of thought and creativity. 

The butterfly flying freely, represent the freedom you could have. The clouds represent that everyone has our own way to make a foundation and live on your own our dream. Don’t be scared to dream high.The shining stars represent you could be the star of your own true self. The planets clockwise only, represent time will never go back, so live life to the fullest.

REFLECTION

Experience
Working on this project is quite challenging because it requires me to reflect back on myself in order to develop the project. In addition, I am quite new to After Effect and so I am quite slow for the animation process. 

Observations
Because it requires me to reflect on myself, I started to observe what is my ineterest, thoughts and feelings which really helps the process of my work. Furthermore, I am able to see other peers work and how each and evry one of them have their own way of expressing themslef. 

Findings
Going through the fional project, I have come to realise that exploring various choices result to more possibilities of good work. Sometimes, the silly idea is just in the head and we didn't realise that it could be an artwork until we execute it. Throughtout this process, I've also gained skills in After affect to create animations.
