Week 2 (28/04/25)  

 

Exercise 1 : Shooting practing

 

During class session we were given 30 minutes to do shooting exercise around school. Shooting should be in landscape and each shot must be 5 seconds. After shooting, edit in Premier pro and add caption, music is optional.  Below are the 8 shooting size details that we need to follow: 

1. Close-Up Shot

2. Frontal Medium Close-Up Shot

3. Frontal Medium Shot

4. Extreme Close-Up Shot

5. Side Angle Medium Shot

6. 3/4 Angling Medium Close-Up Shot

7. Low Angle Wide Shot

8. Eye-Level Medium-Wide Shot

2. Arrange footage in sequence.

3. I did some light adjustment for some footage because some of the clip was too bright/dark.

 4. Then I add caption based on the shot.

 5. Then I add Video transition for the captions. (Effect - video transition - dissolve - cross dissolve). Lastly I add music.

Exercise 2 : Editing Practice 

We watched Lalin advertisement video during class. Mr.Martin assigned us to do editing exercise based on Lalin story. The footage was the work of our seniors. We were to cut, arrange and add graphics to the clips and make a 35 seconds sharp video.

1. I download all the footage and label them in sequence for easy editing.

3. Start triming and put in sequence in timeline. Left monitor is for seeing particular footage, right monitor is the whole timeline footage. To cut begining click 'i' , cut ending click 'o' .

 4. Because we need to make a dissapear effect, first stack in both clips, then cut a bit of the second clip, then add cross dissolve in between for the effect.

5. Lastly, I add text and add cross disslove effect in every end of the text so it will slowly dissapear.

Week 3 (05/05/25)  

Exercise : Shooting practing 

 
We did shooting exercise during class session, we were given 30 minutes to shot 5 videos based on below shot size.

To begin, I import our videos into Premier Pro.

Trim clips and arrange in timeline.

I did some color correction for this clip because it was took using different phone from the other clips so the colour is tone is not the same.

Lastly, I add text with cross dissolve effect and music with exponential fade.

PROJECT 2A LALIN

 

Week 7 (02/06/25)  

 

The Lalin video we editted previously, we need to do colour correction and color grading. Firstly, I open the lumetri scope panel and adjust see the lumetri (luna) of one clip. Then I use the first clip as a reference to the rest. I tried to balance out all the clips to have the similar waveform ranging from 1-100.

Moving on, still in the lumetri scope, I open the parade (RGB) mode and use the white balance ink tool to parallel the color. Then I use the first clip for reference to adjust the rest.

Lastly, after adjusting colour correction (the exposure, contrast, shadow and highlight and RGB),  I began to add color grading of blue (cold). I adjust a bit in contrast to make it balance.

PROJECT 2B PRODUCTION SHOOT

 

Week 6-7  (26/05/25 - 02/06/25) 

 

Pre-Production 

 

Mr Martin gave us a briefing on the production shooting.  Below is the storyboard and clips he provided us for guidline.

Mr.Martin divide us into 2 groups and provide us the production crew list. We were then task to shot scenes from the movie 'Everything Everywhere All at Once'.

I was the camera assistent. 

A week before shooting, Mr.Martin bring us down to studio lab and practice shooting using the camera, tripod, lighting and sound. The producer were assigned to buy the battery for the camera. 

 

 

Shooting

 

During the shooting day, everyone was busy to work on their own role. It runs smoothly and unexpectedly we had so much fun during the processs.

Post-Production 

 

Editing  

Firstly, I watched and listened to all the clips and chose the best one. The I look up at youtube for inspirations.

 

Moving on,I arrange the plot into the arrangement I want :

1. Open eyes 

2. Open door and holding face 

3. Pulling bag strap

4. Fighting

5. Mandarin dialogue

6. Don't need to explain 

7. Men smiling 

  

After arranging my clips as above, I began to think of the color that suits the scene as we were assigned to colour grade the production shoot with the combination of the following:  

• Teal & Orange (clip 3)
• Bluish (cold) (clip 1)
• Greenish (cold) (clip 4)
• Brownish (warm) (clip 5&6)
• Desaturation, 50%-70% (clip 2)
• B & W, High Contrast (clip 7)                            

 

I upload the video and audio clips into Premiere Pro. I delete all the original sound from the clips and just use the seprate audio clips. I began to trim and cut the clips. Then start with the colour corection (contrast, shadow, highlight and exposure) and (RGB colours). Next, I do colour grading as following the list above.  For some part, I add desnoise effect to enhance the cast's sound. I also added some effect such as scale size into my clips. In addition, I added some texts with linear effect. Lastly, I add the rolling credits in the ending of the video.

REFLECTION

 

Experience

It was a fun and exciting experience to do shooting with my friends. It was my first time to doing a production shooting, there a lot to be prepared before the shooting. Although it was tiring, it was also fun at the same time. In addition it was also my first time doing color grading in Premiere Pro and I could say I was quite struggling doing this.

 

Observation

Doing color correction and color grading was very time consuming. My eyes were almost so close to the laptop screen while editing. I need to closely pay attention to the color of each clip, as some are in low light some are bright. During the production shoot, I've observed that doing 1 shot is not as fast as I imagine. A lot need to be considered from the shot size, angle, lighting, audio and these need a lot of time to be ready.

 

Findings 

Having color refernece for a video will make life easier to edit the rest of the clip, although you still need to pay attention to one  by one as different clip might have different ligthing. I realized that I don't need to folow the storyboard given for the production shooting, however, I could build up my own creativity for the trailer video, it was fun exploring the shots.
