REFLECTION
Experience
Although the semester started with an overwhelming workload, I found
myself dedicating the most time to this module, from sketching to
digitizing, it was a long yet rewarding journey. Through exploring
personal branding and creating my own wordmark, I gained deeper
self-awareness. The intense weeks passed by quickly, especially from
Week 9 to 13, where I focused on developing a consistent typeface.
Despite the time pressure, I’m proud to have completed each task on
time and I am satisfied with the results.
Observation
Throughout the process, I often worked alongside friends, exchanging
feedback and gaining new perspectives that helped us grow and see
different design styles. I realized that a single typographic system
can be interpreted in many ways, and effective use of white space can
greatly enhance visual impact. In class, I paid close attention not
only to my own feedback but also to comments given to others, which
provided valuable insights for improving my work. Observing my peers'
projects helped me understand the importance of consistency in
letterforms to create a cohesive typeface, and I learned that a font
presentation doesn’t need to be overly complex, however it should
simply highlight the type effectively.
Findings
Despite the limited time, I became more comfortable using InDesign and
improved my understanding of typographic systems. I learned that what
we imagine doesn’t always work visually, so testing and refining are
important. Feedbacks, both for me and my peers, was valuable for
reflection. This module also taught me that a wordmark should carry
meaning, even if it looks simple. Simplicity doesn’t mean easy,
designing a font needs precision, consistency, and a clear purpose to
guide its creation, presentation, and application.
