REFLECTION
Experience :
Going through the first semester of my degree, there are many ups
and downs I've been through. This Typography lesson was quite
challenging for me, as everything felt new, I need to always be
alert and focus to the lesson taught. Despite spending so much
time and effort on each and every one of the task, I really enjoy
to explore Typography.
I am really grateful for Mr. Max’s clear explanations, encouragement, and
opportunities to practice, which helped me to understand deeper. Despite
initial confusion, I improved through multiple tasks and gained great
experience. The final task of creating my own typeface from sketches allow me
to express myself and explore freely. Although within the process it was
somehow challenging, I thoroughly enjoyed the creative freedom and felt
satisfied with the outcome after consistent progress.
Obeservation : Every week, there will be feedbacks given and through that
I have developed much, seeing things different ways, from broad view. I observed
that even with the same assignment, everyone produced a unique outcomes,
reflecting their own creativity. During classes I could share ideas with other
peers, we are able to share thoughts and also making myself more competitive to
give the 'best'. After going through these 14 weeks I realize that tidiness is
good however does not always looks good. Sometimes we need the spices of
randomness to add in creative work. In addition, paying every little detail is
important as it creates harmony into the design.
Findings : I love beautiful words and value words and message they
carry. So I truly enjoyed tasks, which encouraged me to better express words
visually. Typography is more than just fonts and typefaces; it allows people
to understand a word’s essence through its design without knowing its meaning.
Throughout classes, I learned various technical skills, that I could apply in
the world of typography. There are times that I struggled and burned out, but
seeking inspiration taught me that the more we observe, the better we can
project ideas into our work. Exploring multiple options could give more
possibilities for good work and to chose which that satisfy you the most.
Feedback from Mr. Max was very helpful in guiding and refining my development
in this module.
